#180 -- Tattoo

Tell a true story about a tattoo or make one up. Do you have one? If so, what of? If not, what would you get if you had to get one? Best one you ever saw? Worst? Tell your tattoo stories!

[And I apologize for the absence of Mr. Linky. I'm still having glitches. Put your link in comments and check back in a day or two. I'll try to get Mr. Linky working :-( Sorry!]

I had the rite of passage about 3 weeks ago, got my first tattoo. It means alot to me; is a cultural one recongnising my connection with an element of my heritage. For those who dont know, 'Ta Moko' is the art of embedding the spirituality of something into you, in the form of tattoo.

My darling (taku whaiaipo' in my ancestral language) visted me here in New Zealand these last few weeks and was moved to have a masculine version of my feminine one. For his, he wanted it to demonstrate his connection to this land, a way of living, his family, and also me. If nothing proceeds further with him and I romantically, I am forever inexplicably bound to him. I'm embedded in his skin.
Its an sensual and beautiful feeling, to be a part of that.

I've been inspired to seek out beautiful moments every day since. I've even started a non-descript plain old photoblog. He was my first post; I love him, and I love him for it.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of Mr. Linky - it is just as easy to create an HREF link... and you have an opportunity to get a bit of info from the author regarding the piece you are about to read.

Like fellow blogger, Khayt, I got my first (and only) tattoo fairly recently. Seriously momentous!! We make these shifts with our own meaning and the import of others.

Peace & love,

Work has gotten kinda hectic these past few days, and I've had no chance to write anything new... so here is a link to an older post with the word "tattoo" in it.

Tripping Over Sleeping Lovers

While we're on the subject, I have 7 tattoos. I love them all. I designed each one myself, and included significant meanings and layered ideas in each one. Tattoos are a very personal and spiritual thing, I think, but that might not be true for everyone.
The main thing is to love the skin you're in, decorated or not! :)

I got a tatoo a few years ago at 34. It was a rebellious act. I told no one and did it when I was alone without kids or husband. A flowering vine on my left shoulder. Three blossoms, one for each child. I enjoyed the process...the fortitude... of each needle prick. I felt strong. invisible, independent. I watched another woman getting one in the chair a few down from me. She squeeled and cried. I didn't make a peep. I had been feeling too much pain in my personal life to be irritated by anything physical. I loved it. I think often about more but with a new husband...it will mean something more personal
