#19 - "Who else might I have been?"

You can take this prompt in several ways. My first thought was: "If I was born in Palestine/Sudan/Siberia/etc... to a farmer/refugee/seal hunter/etc... who might I have been?" Suppose that everything that is essentially YOU as far as the nature part of it goes was the same, only the nurture was very different. Think for a moment about how the circumstances of your life have shaped who you are, and then mentally rearrange those circumstances. How about if you were an heir or heiress? Could you have avoided becoming Paris Hilton and maintained some sliver of a soul?

OR... Has there been a dramatic crossroads in your life? A road not taken? If you had taken a left turn instead of a right that day back in 1980... might your whole life had turned out differently?

OR... ruminate on your past lives.

OR... go wherever else your imagination leads you when you ponder: Who else might I have been?

I just wrote a short piece inspired by "Who Else I Might Have Been". I tried to get the exact link to the post, but couldn't figure it out. If you go to www.saddleshoe.blogspot.com, it is the newest posting, "Who I might have been" It is about what might've happened if my family had stayed in Israel.

Thanks

Hi Megg, Laini,

While writing my post for this week's subject I kept going towards the future rather than the past and thought that perhaps this might be an interesting follow up subject for another week: "Who else can I still be?" Just some food for thought.

I also want to take this opportunity to thank you for bringing Sunday Scribblings to life and for encouraging everyone to join in, there are always so many different and interesting angles on the subjects, I just love it.

But even more so it is the personal challenge that I appreciate. I love writing but it does not come easy to me, so Scribblings are excellent practice. I am also one of those people who begin a project with enthusiasm only to release it again once I run out of steam which is usually sooner than later! With Scribblings I made a commitment to myself to stick with it, and so far I have participated in every week!

Thank you for all the effort you put into this project, I am very grateful to both of you.

Take care, Kerstin

I, too, would like to be listed in your Participants sidebar list. I am really trying to make this an absolute committment. I LOVE Sunday Scribblings and that you have given us all both forum and focus.

I've also mused about a couple of possible topics and am not sure where to make those suggestions. I have thought of "In memory of / In tribute to" People could write about the passing of things like chivalry, courtesy, common sense, certain dances or music, as well as special people. I also really liked what could be done with "Parasites" You could talk about anything from fleas on your pet to the office jerk who never chips into the coffee club but will drink the last half a cup and use the last of the creamer with never a thot to apology or money or making a new pot. My particular nemesis in that area are the Kudzu or Trumpet Creeper vines that choke the life out of my grapefruit trees and take the paint off my concrete block house.

Thanks Laini and Megg for sharing this wonderful stimulus and opportunity with us!!!
