#23 - Fortune Cookie

You can write your own fortune or tell a story of one that came true or didn't. What comes to you? What are you fortune cookie memories and imaginings?

Another nag about permalinks: if you have a blogger account, your "link" will look like this:

http://sundayscribblings.blogspot.com/

but your PERMALINK will look something like this:

http://sundayscribblings.blogspot.com/2006/08/sunday-scribblings-22-monster.html

MOST of you are doing it right, so thank you! Any new contributors, welcome! Just leave your permalink in the comments.

Sunday Scribblings #22 - "The Monster..."

Inspired by one of my favorite childhood books, this week's prompt is: "The Monster..." (and you finish it as you are inspired to do.) Will it be the monster under your bed, the one under your child's bed, or the monster that was your grade three teacher? You could write about your favorite monster costume, a monster in your past, your favorite Muppet, your strange and scary pet, or the big shark that you met scuba diving off the coast of somewhere strange.

I realize that this prompt could also open up some dark scary places in your past or present life. Whatever monster you choose to write about, be brave. As with many things, monsters come in all sizes and shapes, but as this little book shows us - sometimes the monsters we believe in are scarier than the ones that are actually there.

AS ALWAYS - PLEASE add your permalink in your comments. Look at previous prompts to see how to do this.

#21 - The Inner Life of Pets

Pets are people, too. We all anthropomorphize our animals, even hearing in our minds what their voices would sound like if they were to speak to us. We imagine them playing cards and making long-distance phone calls when we're out of the house. We see them falling in love with other dogs at the park, or getting in gang fights with the cats from the next block over.

Imagine your pet's inner life. If you don't have a pet right now, get creative. Remember a beloved long-ago pet or just imagine one.

PLEASE READ THIS: There are a few regulars out there who haven't quite mastered the permalink thing. PLEASE leave your full link in the comments; don't just tell us you've scribbled. Thanks! And anybody new, welcome to Sunday Scribblings and please feel free to participate. Just write a response to the prompt and put it up on your blog, then post a permalink in the comments and we'll add the link.

Sunday Scribblings #20 - "Who Else Can I Still Be?"

Inspired by Laini's prompt and by a comment and a suggestion made by Kerstin last week, this week's Sunday Scribblings prompt is: "Who Else Can I Still Be?"

Last week many of us prompted regrets, sadness, excitement, determination or wistfulness. With this week's prompt, hopefully you can open yourself up further to the possibilities. Maybe you are still determined to be a movie star or to change the world or to have children (or not!) Maybe you will write a book or live abroad or enjoy becoming a grandparent. You could use this as a prompt for some fiction and let one of your characters ponder this question. You could send us a list, a poem, a song, a timed piece, or anything really! Be gentle, be bold, and be honest: who else could you still be?

If you are new (and some of you who aren't new) to Sunday Scribblings, please see this post for help on how to do the perma-link. (I know that we keep going on about that pesky thing, but it makes our lives easier if we do not have to go to each individual person's blog to find the link to the specific Sunday Scribblings post.)

If you feel like it when you leave your comment, let us know how many weeks you have participated. We're at 20 weeks now - imagine how far we can go!!

Happy Scribbling!

#19 - "Who else might I have been?"

You can take this prompt in several ways. My first thought was: "If I was born in Palestine/Sudan/Siberia/etc... to a farmer/refugee/seal hunter/etc... who might I have been?" Suppose that everything that is essentially YOU as far as the nature part of it goes was the same, only the nurture was very different. Think for a moment about how the circumstances of your life have shaped who you are, and then mentally rearrange those circumstances. How about if you were an heir or heiress? Could you have avoided becoming Paris Hilton and maintained some sliver of a soul?

OR... Has there been a dramatic crossroads in your life? A road not taken? If you had taken a left turn instead of a right that day back in 1980... might your whole life had turned out differently?

OR... ruminate on your past lives.

OR... go wherever else your imagination leads you when you ponder: Who else might I have been?

Newcomers welcome! Just leave a comment to this post with your permalink included and we'll link up to you. Anyone who's reading and considering starting a blog just to participate: please do! Just click where it says "blogger" in the upper lefthand corner of this screen and follow the super-easy steps, then come back and join us here. It's easy!
